Jewish History
& Influence in Denmark
Influence
- Rescue – Survival
Although never large in numbers the Jews in
Denmark nevertheless had a substantial and
important influence on Danish culture and
history. Since the King Christian the 4th
invited Jews to settle in Denmark in 1622,
people like Nobel Prize winner Niels Bohr, and
entertainer Victor Borge, has played an
important role in Danish Society.
The rescue of the Danish Jews
in 1943
I will take you on an imaginary tour of Danish
Jewry where you will experience highlights of
the Jewish impact on Danish life, and tell my
personal story of the miraculous rescue of the
Danish Jews where my father and grandmother
escaped to Sweden hiding beneath the deck of a
fishing boat. A breathtaking story of courage,
humanity and tolerance in a time of great
horror.
Present Jewish life in Denmark -
Anti Semitism
Through a one hour Power Point presentation
with an abundance of photos you will also learn
about the conditions of the Danish Jews today.
In a society where anti Semitism never played an
important role, times are now changing with the
growing Muslim population in the Country,
especially after the “Muhammed drawings” first
time printed in a Danish newspaper in 2005.
